The Minister of Education and Science of the Republic of Armenia Armen Ashotyan today hosted newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Armenia Ivan Volynkin. Congratulating the Ambassador on his appointment A. Ashotyan expressed hope that during his diplomatic mission Volynkin would make every effort to strengthen and expand Armenian-Russian educational cooperation. “The Russian Federation is a major partner for Armenia not only in the economic and strategic interaction spheres, but also in the educational field”, stressed the RA Minister.
The Ambassador assured on his own behalf that he would endeavor to develop Armenian-Russian educational cooperation and mentioned, that Armenian-Russian relations had reached a point there could not be any unsolved issue. During the meeting the two sides discussed issues on joint educational programs and noted the role of the Russian-Armenian Slavonic University as the best practice of the educational cooperation between the two countries. A. Ashotyan pointed out the problem of Armenian language courses in some schools of the RF, expecting state support from Russia related to this issue.
The Ambassador and the Minister also discussed different issues on the Russian language teaching courses in the Armenian schools, the implemented programs on the bilateral intergovernmental agreement s in the higher educational sphere and other running problems.
